6 members of the Lancaster Volkswagen team recently went on a trip to Alicante to experience the new Up and the new Beetle. With a start of 3am the manager, Shaun Horrocks and 5 members of the team made their way to Manchester Airport. After a 2 hour wait and a flight of about the same time, they landed in Alicante. With barely enough time to drop off their bags at the hotel (picture above), they were whisked to their first meeting. The head designer of the VW Up went through the features of the new supermini and filled in the team on everything potential customers will want to know.
The image above shows a white Volkswagen Up which was on display. It was signed by everybody there, including our team members. This will be going on display at the Volkswagen Factory in Wolfsburg. After the signing of the car, everybody got to try out the new Up on the roads of Alicante. The roads were deserted so they got to try out the city braking system, and the electronic stability programme on the more twisty roads. They also pitched the Up against the Fiat 500 and the Ford Fiesta to compare the technology and driving experience. At the end of the first day everybody got taken out to the 21st Century Club for dinner. Then it was off to bed for another early start.
On day 2 there was the theory classes. Everybody learnt about all the technology in the Beetle and Up and got to look around the Beetle Turbo models. Then it was time to go home, and off to bed.
