Cox Motor Group is sponsoring Archie Brown, the nephew of our Sales Executive Oliver Brown at Blackpool Honda. Archie has just been accepted into Team GB's Karate Team.
Archie Brown started karate at Firstdojo Martial Arts a month before his 6th birthday in May 2012. He was quickly recognised as having a natural talent by his Sensei Jamie Edmonds and began to progress through the belt system at an incredible speed with his dedication of training 5 hours per week.
Just over 12 months after starting goju ryu karate, he began competing starting with the Northern TKF in Bradford where he got a bronze for his kata, a gold for team kata and a gold in kumite. He then took on the Northern Open Championships in Manchester competing against other styles of karate and achieved a silver medal in kata amongst 6-9 year olds.
The North East Okami Championships were a real challenge competing in categories with 31 entrants and achieving gold in kata and 4th in kumite.
Finally, after 18 months of training, he travelled to London for the TKF Nationals where he became a National Champion when he won gold in kata. His performance at these competitions attracted the attention of a JKF GB coach and he was asked to try out for the GB squad. 2 trials later and he was chosen for the kumite squad with his training starting in January 2014.
