Cox Motor Group Director, David Cox was one of the few who were lucky enough to be invited over to Switzerland for the 2014 Geneva Motor Show to experience a world’s first glance at the unveiling of The Honda Civic Type-R Concept; giving us our first glimpse of what the next in the iconic Type-R line-up will look like.
Although it is still in concept at this stage, it is thought that most of the styling will remain intact for the production model that will be launched in 2015. Honda claims that the styling ‘represents Honda’s racing spirit’, and that most of the parts on the car serve a real purpose in increasing performance. At the front, there is a spoiler for added down force, with vertical side wings for reduced drag. Larger front intakes have been designed to maximise cooling potential, while at the rear, a new double rear wing will add down force.
Although based on the standard Civic, the chassis will be modified to handle the extra power. The concept sits 30mm lower than a normal civic with huge 20-inch wheels filling out the widened wheel arches. There’s the possibility of a rear-wheel steering system, although this hasn’t yet been confirmed. The Type-R Concept has also received new headlights with integrated running lights, while the defining feature at the back are tail lights which are built into the double rear wing. There is currently no new news on the engine, but Honda has mentioned the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine will produce around 280bhp, although more than 300bhp is very much a possibility!
